Methodology

For each card we calculate the amount charged to a euro account for a payment in a foreign currency: exchange rate × amount + fees. The result is compared with the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buy and sell prices on currency markets, which has no margin built in.

Where the rates come from

Live rates are refreshed about every 10 minutes. Fee rules are checked by hand against each provider's published terms.

Checked or estimated

Each result says what its price is based on, for the rate and for the fees:

When any part of a result is assumed, its price is shown with a ≈ in front of it. Estimates are never given the “Cheapest” badge: when an estimate ranks first, the cheapest measured price is labelled “Cheapest confirmed price” instead. Every result links to the provider's own page so you can check the rate yourself.

Trading 212 CardEstimate: interbank rate approximated by the mid-market rate, no additional fee.
  • Trading 212's own rates aren't available to automated tools, so this is an estimate at the mid-market rate. On 7 Nov 2026 its site showed rates within 0.1% of mid-market for USD and JPY, but 0.3% below for THB.
  • On weekends the last weekday interbank rate is used. Without an interbank rate, Trading 212 uses the Mastercard rate with no markup.
  • Cards are issued by Paynetics.
  • Free ATM withdrawals up to €400/month, then 1%.
  • The 1.5% cashback programme ends on 3 December 2026.

Yuh Debit CardEstimate: interbank rate approximated by the mid-market rate + 0.95% fee.
  • Only residents of Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein can open an account; onboarding for other countries (including France, Germany and Italy) is on hold. Austrian and Liechtenstein residents must first deposit at least €500 from a bank account in their country.
  • Yuh says it uses the interbank rate but doesn't publish its rates, so this is an estimate at the mid-market rate.
  • No fee if you already hold the spending currency in your Yuh account (13 currencies available). Otherwise Yuh converts from the currency you hold most of, at 0.95%.
  • 0.95% also applies to currencies Yuh doesn't hold (debited in the card's reference currency, EUR for Austrian residents, CHF for Swiss residents).
  • Cash withdrawals abroad cost 4.90 per withdrawal (CHF, EUR or USD).
  • Banking services are provided by Swissquote Bank, whose quotes are also our first-choice mid-market benchmark.
